Phila., New Haven Newspaper Publishers File Ch. 11

Law360 (February 23, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Two more newspaper publishers sought bankruptcy protection over the weekend as the industry continues to suffer from declining circulations and advertising revenue.

The Journal Register Co. — owner of the New Haven Register, 19 other daily newspapers, 159 nondaily publications and about 200 Web sites — filed its Chapter 11 petition Saturday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, listing assets of about $596 million and liabilities of about $737 million.
