Judge OKs Settlement In TV Bulb Suit V. Toshiba

Law360, New York (February 25, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A magistrate judge has approved the settlement of a class action accusing Toshiba America Inc. of making digital light processing televisions with bulbs susceptible to premature failure.

In an opinion Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Judge Steven M. Gold of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York finalized the deal, which calls for class members to receive compensation for replaced bulbs. Toshiba will also extend the warranty on replacement bulbs from six to 12 months.
