Waymo Pushes To Halt Uber Use Of Driverless Car IP

Law360, Los Angeles (March 10, 2017, 6:42 PM EST) -- Google’s driverless car project, Waymo LLC, told a California federal court Friday that Uber Technologies Inc. must be prevented from using any stolen Waymo intellectual property related to self-driving vehicle technology, saying the trade-secrets and patent allegations against Uber merit a preliminary injunction.

Waymo, which is a subsidiary of Google parent Alphabet Inc., is accusing Uber and its self-driving car arm of using patented and confidential information about LiDAR, or "light detection and ranging" laser systems, in Uber's own development and production of autonomous vehicles. The...
