Pai Unlikely To Quell Politics At FCC With Economics Push

By Jenna Ebersole (April 7, 2017, 9:29 PM EDT) -- Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai said Wednesday he wants to more heavily weigh the economic impacts of potential agency decision-making in the future, a goal experts say isn't necessarily partisan but also won't fundamentally alter the politics that often drive agency decisions.

The chairman said in a speech that the FCC has backed away in recent years from economics-based policies and should pay early and careful attention to the economic impacts of its plans. In his remarks, Pai announced he would aim to launch a new Office of Economics and Data by the end of the year.
