Deals Rumor Mill: Toshiba, Time, Siemens

By Benjamin Horney (April 12, 2017, 6:35 PM EDT) -- A coalition of Broadcom Ltd. and Silver Lake Partners LP has made the highest offer to buy Toshiba Corp.'s memory chip business, with Reuters reporting Wednesday that the California duo's bid is worth roughly 2.5 trillion yen ($23 billion). In second is Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group with a proposal of about 2 trillion yen, the report said. SK Hynix Inc. and Western Digital Corp. round out the list of interested suitors that made it to the next round of bidding. Western Digital, which operates a Japanese semiconductor plant alongside Toshiba, feels it should be given exclusive negotiating rights and sent a letter to Toshiba explaining reasons why, the report noted. Previous reports said there were 10 or more companies initially interested in acquiring the Toshiba business....
