Managing Law Partner Owes Secretary Over $140K, Jury Told

Law360, Los Angeles (April 25, 2017, 11:25 PM EDT) -- A California legal secretary’s attorney delivered opening statements Tuesday in her suit against the managing partner of a boutique Los Angeles firm, saying the partner is trying to avoid paying over $140,000 for overtime and backpay with an entity set up to "avoid creditors, taxes and child support."

Noemi Bernal claims in her suit that she was fired by J.J. Little & Associates in July 2013 without cause. She also alleges the firm violated California labor laws by misclassifying her as an exempt employee, failing to pay her overtime wages, and giving her a 2010 Audi as compensation but then demanding...
