Employment Suits Dropped In 2008: Report

Law360, New York (March 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Employment lawsuit filings dropped 10 percent last year compared to 2007, with all major kinds of employment lawsuits except for Employee Retirement Income Security Act suits showing significant decline, according to a new report.

Lawsuits filed pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act dropped the most, from 7,310 suits filed in 2007 to 5,393 filed in 2008 — a drop of 26.2 percent, according to an annual report from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The biggest drop came in the Northern District of Alabama,...
