(BIPA) became law in October 2008, it was the first state law of its kind to generally regulate the collection, use and retention of biometric information, defined by the statute as "information, regardless of how it is captured, converted, stored, or shared, based on an individual's biometric identifier used to identify an individual," which includes "a retina or iris scan, fingerprint, voiceprint, or scan of hand or face geometry." Texas passed a similar law shortly thereafter in 2009 called the Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act, but until recently, the Illinois and Texas laws were the only two of their kind, and received little attention....
