Final OK Sought For $741M In Settlements In Takata MDL

By Nathan Hale (October 25, 2017, 9:29 PM EDT) -- Urging a Florida federal court Wednesday to grant final approval for $741 million in settlements with four automakers in class actions over dangerously defective Takata Corp. air bags, class counsel highlighted two ways the agreements are below average: the number of objections and the portion going to attorneys' fees.

"It's a darn good settlement," lead class counsel Peter Prieto of Podhurst Orseck PA said of the deals reached with Toyota Motor Corp., BMW of North America LLC, Subaru of America Inc. and Mazda North American Operations, during the final fairness hearing in Miami.
