Beef Co. GC Says ABC's 'Pink Slime' News Sank Its Sales

Law360, Los Angeles (June 16, 2017, 10:18 PM EDT) -- Beef Products Inc.’s general counsel told a South Dakota jury Friday that ABC’s reporting calling its beef product “pink slime” nearly killed the company, saying its sales of the product dropped by roughly three-quarters after ABC went to air.

BPI is alleging that ABC’s March 2012 prime-time report, and nearly a month of follow-up coverage online and on television, cost it $1.9 billion and nearly killed its business with false, defamatory statements about its “lean finely textured beef,” or LFTB, including calling it “pink slime.”...
