Fidelity Strikes Deal Over Calif. Kickback Claims

Law360 (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Fidelity National Title Co. has agreed to pay $365,000 to settle claims by California's insurance regulator that it paid kickbacks to real estate agents and lenders in exchange for business referrals.

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced the settlement Monday, saying Fidelity had since cleaned up its act.

Under the agreement, the title insurer will pay penalties of $345,000, as well as another $20,000 to the California Department of Insurance to cover attorneys' fees and expenses.
