New Detroit Span Spells Current One's Doom, DC Circ. Told

Circuit panel Thursday to rip up the federal government's plans for a public alternative to the international roadway, saying "our bridge will become a relic and will be dead in a few years" if it is built.

The Ambassador Bridge's owners said that the planned Gordie Howe International Bridge will destroy any economic basis to build a new adjacent six-lane bridge, or "twin span," to the Ambassador, which is necessary to expand capacity and perform repairs on the original 87-year-old structure.
