Law360, New York (October 17, 2017, 9:16 PM EDT) -- The Third Circuit on Tuesday affirmed that several media outlets including the New York Daily News and TMZ Productions Inc. did not commit libel when they reported on a New Jersey woman’s purported involvement in an illicit drug and prostitution ring, allegations that she was later cleared of.
The three-judge panel said the lower court rightly dismissed Janice Lee’s defamation and negligence claims, as the news articles she objected to were protected by the New Jersey fair-report privilege because they were based solely off statements made in a press conference and press release issued by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman....
