Equinox Facing TM Claims Over Hotel Expansion Plan

Law360, New York (November 21, 2017, 4:41 PM EST) -- A small firm called Equinox Hotels asked a California federal judge on Monday to block high-end gym giant Equinox from expanding into hotels, claiming the bigger rival threatens to “usurp” the company’s identity.

Equinox, which already operates more than 100 pricey fitness clubs across the country, announced plans in 2015 to launch a line of hotels that would “cater exclusively to the high performance traveler.” The Manhattan flagship, currently under construction, is scheduled to open in 2019.
