Immigrant-Duping Calif. Atty Charged With Felony Theft

Law360, Los Angeles (December 4, 2017, 9:21 PM EST) -- A disbarred immigration attorney on Monday pled guilty in a California state court to 15 felony counts of grand theft for defrauding citizenship-seeking clients and agreed to pay them $371,709 in restitution, according to an announcement from state attorney general Xavier Becker.

The plea deal stipulated that Elena Dorothea Brooks, also known as Mary Brooks, will serve a five-year sentence split between three years in confinement and two years of community supervision, in addition to the restitution payments.
