Calif. OKs Waymo To Test Truly Driverless Cars

Law360 (October 31, 2018, 3:31 PM EDT) -- Waymo LLC scored approval from California regulators to be the first to test self-driving cars on public roads without a human driver behind the wheel, the self-driving car unit of Google's parent company, Alphabet Inc., said Tuesday.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles granted Waymo the first permit to test fully driverless cars on highways and city streets in parts of Northern California, including Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Palo Alto. The area is where Waymo and Alphabet maintain their headquarters.
