Uber Wins Arbitration Bid In Ill. Driver Wage Fight

Law360, New York (July 14, 2017, 4:35 PM EDT) -- An Illinois federal judge on Friday granted a bid from Uber Technologies Inc. to compel arbitration in a proposed class action alleging the ride-hailing service misclassified drivers as independent contractors, but refused to toss the case as a whole.

U.S. District Judge Jorge L. Alonso granted Uber’s arbitration bid in Luis Olivares’ suit alleging violations of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act, Illinois Minimum Wage Law and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
