SDNY To Randomly Assign Large Bankruptcy Cases

By Vince Sullivan (November 23, 2021, 5:35 PM EST) -- The bankruptcy court in the Southern District of New York announced changes Monday to the way large Chapter 11 cases will be doled out among the bench, with these cases to be randomly assigned to the district's bankruptcy judges regardless of the office in which the case is filed.

The court said the change will be implemented beginning Dec. 1 through an amendment to the district's local rules, and it will apply to "mega" cases only — Chapter 11 filings with more than $100 million in assets or liabilities.
