Antitrust lawyers and government enforcers have been eager for guidance from the U.S. Supreme Court on how to apply an important antitrust principle, "the rule of reason," to different types of markets. Many had been looking to the justices' findings in the American Express anti-steering rules case to provide some clarity, but the outcome fell far short of the broad guidance they have been seeking.
