China Telecom Unit Smacked With TCPA Suit Over Robocalls

Law360 (August 13, 2018, 8:48 PM EDT) -- An American subsidiary of state-owned China Telecom Corp. Ltd. has been hit with a proposed class action in California federal court alleging that the telecom provider has violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by bombarding consumers with robocalls.

Marlene Begay's Thursday complaint alleges that China Telecom Americas Corp. interrupted an important meeting she was attending by calling her cellphone, even though she never gave the company permission to do so and has been on the National Do Not Call Registry for years.
