Judge Limits Evidence For Roundup Bellwether Trial

Law360 (February 19, 2019, 10:48 PM EST) -- A California federal judge on Monday ruled that conflicting reports about the herbicide glyphosate's safety should be excluded from the initial phase of next week’s bellwether trial over claims that Monsanto's Roundup product causes cancer, ruling they would distract jurors being asked to evaluate the scientific evidence in the case.

U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria issued a seven-page ruling on the motions in limine filed by Bayer AG unit Monsanto and plaintiff Edward Hardeman, who alleges the company's glyphosate herbicides gave him non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The parties are set to head before a jury next week.
