Audible Inks Deal With 8.4M Users Over False Ad Claims

By Hailey Konnath (March 26, 2019, 10:24 PM EDT) -- Audible has reached a settlement with a class of 8.4 million listeners who claimed the audiobook retailer traps members in a scheme that violates gift card laws and cheats them out of earned audiobook credits, according to a motion for preliminary approval of the agreement unsealed Monday.

The settlement, which garnered the approval of U.S. District Judge George H. Wu last week, calls for Audible to foot the bill for $1.5 million in attorney fees and dole out nearly 12 million free audiobooks to members of three subclasses. Audible must also reimburse certain class members for any overdraft or similar fees...
