Law360 (June 28, 2018, 3:14 PM EDT) -- Almost daily, articles appear discussing the current and projected future dearth of airline pilots and other pilots. In February 2016, regional carrier Republic Airways, which serves Delta, American and United, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization, in part because it lacked pilots to fly the flights for which it was committed. It was losing pilots faster than it could recruit and hire new ones.

In April of this year Great Lakes Airlines, another regional, ceased operations, ostensibly due to inability to hire pilots. The Regional Airline Association called it “the latest example of the pilot shortage and its damaging impact on American businesses...
