Calif. Hits DOL Over Blocking Transit Grants

Law360, Los Angeles (October 4, 2013, 8:27 PM EDT) -- The State of California hit the U.S. Department of Labor with a lawsuit in federal court on Friday, saying the agency improperly denied federal grants to the state’s public transit providers after concluding that recent pension reforms constrain workers’ collective bargaining rights.

The lawsuit raises allegations that the DOL improperly declined to certify critical transit grants on the grounds that California’s landmark pension reform law, the California Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013, diminishes collective bargaining rights of its employees.
