Rusoro Wants $1.2B Venezuelan Award Enforced In NY

Law360, New York (December 7, 2017, 2:39 PM EST) -- Rusoro Mining Ltd. asked a New York state court Tuesday to enforce a $1.2 billion international arbitration award issued against Venezuela after the country expropriated the company’s investments, opening another front in its battle to sidestep the country’s foreign-country immunity defense.

The Canadian mining company’s complaint told the court it need not consider foreign sovereign immunity laws in this instance because it’s not directly petitioning the court to enforce an international award, as it is in a case pending in D.C. federal court.
