$75M Ericsson Award Nullified, New Damages Trial Ordered

Law360 (March 8, 2018, 6:35 PM EST) -- The recent $75 million award against TCL Communication Technology Holdings Ltd. for violating one of Ericsson Inc.’s patents is now null and void, after the Texas judge overseeing the case tore it up and ordered a new trial to determine damages.

In a one-paragraph order filed Wednesday, Magistrate Judge Roy S. Payne of Texas’ Eastern District wrote that the jury’s finding of infringement in the earlier trial “will stand,” but ordered a new trial to determine the amount TCL will be penalized.
