5Pointz Artists Want $2.6M In Attys’ Fees After Big Win

Law360 (March 16, 2018, 6:42 PM EDT) -- Following a ruling that a New York City developer violated federal law when he demolished the famed graffiti space 5Pointz, the street artists behind the site demanded Thursday he repay their whopping $2.6 million legal bill.

The big request for attorneys’ fees came a month after U.S. District Judge Frederic Block ruled in February that Jerry Wolkoff willfully violated the Visual Artists Rights Act, or VARA, when he destroyed the famous site to build high-rise condos. The judge ordered the “unrepentant” developer to pay $6.75 million in damages.
