Gaming IP Dispute Is Instructive For Cos. On PTAB Litigation

By Harper Batts, Chris Ponder and Vincent Sheu (September 9, 2021, 4:36 PM EDT) -- Over the past several years, game makers Supercell Oy and Gree Inc. have been locked in a patent dispute sprawling across the world, including over a dozen district court cases in the U.S.

Most recently in July, the parties filed a joint motion indicating that they had settled nine cases in principle and requested a stay to finalize their settlement agreement.[1]

In addition to those cases, since June 2018, Supercell has filed 14 petitions for inter partes review and 22 petitions for post grant review against Gree patents before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
