Attys Flagged For Possible Discipline Over Settlement Clause

By Rachel Rippetoe (September 1, 2021, 4:31 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court has referred three lawyers to the State Bar of California, after they accepted a settlement on a client's behalf without her approval. 

On Monday, the court sided with Sayedeh Sahna Amjadi and flagged her former attorneys for possible discipline after finding that a settlement provision in the lawyers' contingent fee agreement was against the state's code of judicial ethics. The court also reversed the dismissal of Amjadi's case over injuries from a motor vehicle accident.
