Law360 (January 10, 2019, 6:33 PM EST) -- The ongoing government shutdown's ripple effects could stymie new product launches and even foil coveted Super Bowl advertising slots if tech companies planned to start marketing devices that have not yet received final approval through the Federal Communications Commission.
Given that a key FCC database is offline as part of the shutdown, certification bodies authorized to work with product developers and labs can’t extend final authorization to new electronics. Companies are mostly prohibited from selling or advertising products to consumers without FCC approval, leading to the possibility that product launches could be put on hold, experts say.
