Ex-Tribe Chairman Gets 5 Years' Probation For Casino Theft

Law360, New York (December 7, 2017, 4:47 PM EST) -- A Nebraska federal judge has sentenced the former chairman of the Winnebago Tribe to five years of probation for stealing from the tribe's casino by receiving and distributing unapproved gift certificates and prepaid debit cards.

John Blackhawk, 63, must also pay more than $36,000 in restitution and serve 150 hours of community service for his role in a scheme to bilk the tribe's WinnaVegas Casino and Resort out of at least $327,000 in unauthorized payments, authorities said.
