AIG Must Defend Port Authority Against WTC Asbestos Claims

By Bibeka Shrestha (August 21, 2013, 5:11 PM EDT) -- An American International Group Inc. unit will have to continue defending the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey against thousands of asbestos-related injury claims brought by the original World Trade Center's construction workers under a New York trial court's ruling released Wednesday.

Judge Eileen Bransten granted the Port Authority's request for partial summary judgment in a legal fight with American Home Assurance Co., though she tossed the Port Authority's claim that American Home had run afoul of a New York state consumer protection law by not quickly settling underlying claims.
