NY Wins $170M In Broadband Funds Turned Down By Verizon
Law360, Washington (January 26, 2017, 8:29 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday signed off on $170 million in additional rural broadband development funding for New York, voting in favor of the state's request to recapture Connect America Fund money rejected by Verizon.
The FCC said the funds will be coupled with $200 million in state funding and private investment to help "jump-start broadband deployment and close the digital divide."
"This is a first step of many to fulfill my promise to empower Americans with online opportunities, no matter who they are and no matter where they live," newly minted FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a statement...
