NTIA's Redl Says Spectrum Sharing Is The Future Of 5G

Law360 (September 19, 2018, 7:29 PM EDT) -- For National Telecommunications and Information Administration head David Redl, the government's vast land and spectrum holdings are an untapped resource that can help make 5G a reality.

Redl, whose NTIA post places him as an assistant secretary within the U.S. Department of Commerce, is overseeing the revamp of the nationwide map of broadband availability, which has been criticized as woefully out of date. The attorney is also guiding various inquiries into the viability of sharing spectrum in different bands, studies that are aimed at making more of the airwaves available to power the next generation of mobile services.
