Minkow Charged In Stock Fraud, Extortion Case

By Dietrich Knauth (March 24, 2011, 7:37 PM EDT) -- A financial fraud investigator and ex-convict was charged with conspiracy in a Florida federal court on Thursday, a week after agreeing to plead guilty to allegations that he intentionally depressed a company's stock with false accusations of fraud.

Barry Minkow, who became an investigator after serving seven years in prison for stock fraud, published false statements as part of a scheme to extort money from Miami-based home builder Lennar Corp., on behalf of a former Lennar business partner who said he was owed money, according to a criminal information filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida....
