Halliburton To Stoke Spats Over ‘Price Impact’ Standard

Law360, New York (June 25, 2014, 9:52 PM EDT) -- While the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday hit the reset button on the debate over the future of securities class actions, experts say attorneys and courts will tussle over the nuances of Chief Justice John Roberts’ majority opinion, particularly with respect to "price impact" studies.

In a ruling that upheld a cornerstone of securities litigation, the high court also gave defendants its blessing to present at an earlier stage of litigation evidence to counter claims that a false statement impacted the price of a company’s stock.
