NFL Insurers Seek Head Injury Settlement Records In NY

Law360, New York (June 14, 2019, 6:31 PM EDT) -- Insurers for the NFL petitioned a New York state court judge on Friday, demanding underlying documents in the league’s litigation and settlement that led to an uncapped fund for football players with head trauma injuries, seeking to escape reimbursing the league.

In oral arguments before Justice Andrea Masley, a confederacy of 28 insurers made the case that it was starved of information about the estimated $1.4 billion deal, decrying the football league and teams' alleged efforts to stall discovery in the seven-year-long lawsuit as well as certain elements of a special referee’s February decision that remains under seal.
