Fla. Judge Drops Out Of Tampa Bay Rays TCPA Suit

Law360 (August 1, 2019, 6:25 PM EDT) -- A Florida magistrate judge on Thursday pulled himself out of a proposed class action accusing the MLB's Tampa Bay Rays of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending spam text messages, saying his involvement in a special event with the team could cast doubt on his impartiality.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Anthony E. Porcelli said in an order that after a hearing in July, he sought an ethics opinion on whether he should stay on the case, and has decided to drop out.
