NHL Team Sponsorship Deal Void, Daily Fantasy Co. Says

Law360, New York (June 2, 2016, 3:47 PM EDT) -- The company behind daily fantasy sports operator Draft Ops on Wednesday asked a Minnesota federal judge to toss a breach of contract suit brought by the National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild, arguing that their sponsorship agreement is void because the state has failed to legalize the games.

Emil Interactive Games LLC said that its sponsorship agreement with the Minnesota Wild hockey team and the Xcel Energy Center contains a clause that allows for contract termination if either the NHL or the state ever determined that daily fantasty sports, or DFS, are illegal, according to the memorandum in support of Emil's motion...
