Ex-ESPN Commentator Fired For Venus Williams Remark Sues

Law360, Los Angeles (February 14, 2017, 8:51 PM EST) -- A longtime ESPN tennis commentator fired by the network for an on-air comment about Venus Williams' style of play during the 2017 Australian Open filed a wrongful termination lawsuit in California court Monday, protesting that he was dropped for something he never said.

Doug Adler contends that he used the word "guerrilla" to describe Williams' aggressive style of play that day, not "gorilla," as many observers believed him to have uttered while commenting on Williams' winning match against Swiss player Stefanie Voegele in the second round of tournament.
