FCC Designates New UK 'White Spaces' Database Manager

Law360 (June 12, 2018, 5:54 PM EDT) -- The Federal Communications Commission has designated a major domain name registry in the United Kingdom to run a database listing unused broadcast TV spectrum that identifies untapped wireless spectrum capable of transmitting broadband data, saying the company’s technical expertise made it the right candidate for the job.

The agency’s Office of Engineering and Technology on Monday named Nominet UK as its next white space database administrator, a job that entails maintaining a list of unclaimed spectrum in the 600 MHz frequency range from the “white spaces” unused by TV channels....
