USPTO's Ruling On Oracle Patents May Stall Google IP Trial

Law360, New York (February 27, 2012, 4:17 PM EST) -- The trial in Oracle America Inc.’s intellectual property battle with Google Inc. over its Android smartphone operating system — scheduled to begin next month — may be postponed, a California judge said Friday, following the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's rejection of two of Oracle’s patents at play in the case.

U.S. District Judge William Alsup asked Google and Oracle to submit “candid” statements on the potential impact the recent patent re-examination results may have on the trial set to start March 19.
