FCC To Cease Most Operations In Wake Of Gov't Shutdown

Law360 (January 2, 2019, 3:03 PM EST) -- The Federal Communications Commission is on track to furlough more than 80 percent of its employees by mid-Thursday with a few exceptions for commissioners and staffers dealing with spectrum auctions and subsidy payouts, as Congress and President Donald Trump remain mired in a budget stalemate over funding for a southern border wall.

The FCC previously escaped most effects of the partial federal government shutdown, which began Dec. 22, because it relies on its own collection of regulatory fees and was fully funded through Wednesday, according to the agency.
