Samsung Wants $539M Apple Verdict Tossed, $145M Refund

Law360 (June 8, 2018, 9:05 PM EDT) -- Two weeks after a California federal jury ruled that Samsung must pay Apple $539 million for infringing its smartphone patents, Samsung asked the court on Thursday to grant it judgment as a matter of law or hold a new trial, and reimburse it $145 million for damages it paid Apple on an invalid touch-screen patent.

In Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s 34-page post-trial motion, the Korean tech giant said the jury's verdict, which awarded Apple Inc. about half of what it requested, wasn't supported by the evidence and "no reasonable jury" could reach the jury's conclusion.
