USCIS Closes Vt. EB-5 Investor Center Over Ski Resort Fraud

Law360 (July 10, 2018, 4:59 PM EDT) -- Vermont said Tuesday it has received a termination notice from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, saying it is shutting down the Vermont Regional Center for immigrant investors after an alleged scheme to defraud EB-5 visa holders who invested millions of dollars in the state’s Jay Peak ski resort.

The state’s Department of Financial Regulation, which received the July 3 notice on Friday, is set to file an administrative appeal of the USCIS’ decision in early August, according to Vermont DFR Commissioner Michael Pieciak. If that administrative appeal is unsuccessful, the state may appeal the decision to federal district court, Pieciak said....
