Firms Vie For Facebook MDL Lead In Judge's 'Beauty Contest'

Law360, San Francisco (July 18, 2018, 10:36 PM EDT) -- Ten law firms fought to take the lead of multidistrict litigation Wednesday alleging Facebook negligently allowed big-data firm Cambridge Analytica to collect personal information on millions of users, during a hearing U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria called a "beauty contest."

Although dozens of attorneys from at least 21 firms showed up in court to vie for the court-appointed role as lead counsel, Judge Chhabria asked only 10 firms to explain why they believe they can best serve the proposed class.
