Progressive Settles $23M Bad Faith Case As Trial Nears

By Nathan Hale (December 4, 2018, 9:15 PM EST) -- Progressive and the family of a child hit by a policyholder's car announced a settlement Tuesday in Florida federal court in a case accusing the insurer of exposing the policyholder to a $22.7 million judgment by failing to coax him to complete critical paperwork.

The settlement ends a case filed by the child's family as assignees of the policyholder, Earl Lloyd, that was headed for a trial starting Dec. 10 in Miami after U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom denied Progressive American Insurance Co. summary judgment last month.
