New England Pipeline Upgrade Opponents Fail At DC Circ.

Circuit has denied a challenge to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's approval of an Enbridge Inc. unit's upgrade of a New England natural gas pipeline, disagreeing with the Massachusetts town of Weymouth, which claims the work wasn't in the public interest or environmentally sound.

In an unpublished judgment filed on Dec. 27, the appeals court panel said that the plans by Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC and Maritime & Northeast Pipeline LLC to upgrade about 6 miles of existing pipeline and construct a compressor station in the plaintiff's town did not violate environmental laws or the Natural Gas Act....
