Volleyball Players Win Cert. In Sex Abuse Cover-Up Suit
Law360 (January 18, 2019, 10:50 PM EST) -- An Illinois federal judge on Friday certified a class of potentially thousands of youth volleyball players on claims that banned USA Volleyball coach Rick Butler concealed the fact that he had sexually abused underage athletes from customers of his clinics and camps.
Named plaintiff Laura Mullen, whose two daughters participated in Butler’s programs, has accused Butler, his wife Cheryl Butler, and their company GLV Inc. of committing fraud and violating state consumer protection laws by not disclosing that Rick Butler allegedly raped and sexually abused at least six underage women in the 1980s.
