Investors Can't Join FTC's Belize Real Estate 'Scam' Suit

By Joyce Hanson (March 14, 2019, 7:12 PM EDT) -- A Maryland federal judge has refused without comment to let a group of Belize property investors get involved in a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit involving what the agency calls "the largest overseas real estate investment scam" it has ever targeted.

U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte signed a paperless order, entered Wednesday in the court docket, denying the March 8 motion to intervene filed by 18 Sanctuary Belize property owners who proposed creating an owners' association to keep the troubled development up and running and represent the interests of approximately 130 concerned lot owners.
